Contract Summary
- Project: Audley Ellerslie Retirement Village, Malvern
- Designer: Milieu Landscape Design
- Client: Audley Ellerslie
- Value: £120,000
- Duration: October 20 – April 21
- Scope: Our Landscape team were tasked with a project to enhance the outdoor space of Audley Ellerslie Retirement Village. Set in the backdrop of the Malvern Hills, we have transformed the grounds to allow the residents to enjoy the full potential of the surrounding area.
Initially, the garden featured a steep grassed area which was inaccessible to most of the residents. However, a new footpath along with wooden handrail has been installed linking all areas of the village. There are numerous viewing and seating platforms strategically designed to make the most of the spectacular views on offer.
Set amongst the woodland, a secluded decking area is a standout feature in the village. To ensure the decking is accessible for all, there are both steps and a path for wheelchair access. At the opposite end of the site there is a slabbed terrace, where natural shade can be found underneath a pre-existing lime tree.
Three contained compost areas have been built using railway sleepers and hazel hurdle fencing. Their design compliments the natural environment within the hills and are positioned to maintain the aesthetics of the landscape.
The majority of the work was undertaken throughout the winter and there were many challenges, most notably the weather and geography of the site. Nevertheless, the hard work of the team has paid off and the finished product reflects this.
