In 2021 AEMG were appointed by Midland Metro Alliance (MMA) to carry out the treatment, removal, disposal and monitoring of two significant Japanese Knotweed Sites in the City of Birmingham.
The two bridges were due to be demolished as part of a new tramline being constructed by MMA in the City. Prior to demolition the Japanese Knotweed had to be treated and removed from site to ensure no other adjacent areas were contaminated.
To ensure eradication the Japanese Knotweed was sprayed using herbicide prior to the removal.
Once the herbicide had visibly started to take effect, the Knotweed and contaminated soil was removed from site via the use of an excavator and dug off carefully to avoid contamination to any other areas of the site.
The works were supervised by our licensed Ecologists to ensure compliance with the specification and that the delivery of the works met all UK legislation regarding the excavations, removal, disposal and subsequent monitoring of the areas.
Following the excavation and removal of the Japanese Knotweed from the site, a banner was installed to line the dugout areas and the area backfilled with clean stone and soil to prevent any regrowth and complete the works.
