Acorn Environmental Management Group (AEMG) has recently completed the ground preparation, top soiling, tree and shrub planting, grass seeding and turf laying at Network Rail’s New Street Station Redevelopment in Birmingham City Centre.
Amey Plc were appointed by MACE Construction Consultants to undertake various external works to the exterior of the station redevelopment including street works, paving, granite planters and street furniture as well as the Landscape features.
AEMG were appointed as a sub-contractor by Amey to undertake the final landscaping to complete the scheme.
Our works included planting heavy standard trees, shrubs and signage in raised granite street planters that formed part of the landscape design produced by the project Landscape Architect.
Due to the site restrictions and a significant amount of our works were undertaken out of hours overnight. This ensured the safety of the public and enabled deliveries to be schedule in pedestrian areas of the scheme, reducing the risks to public and maintaining efficiency with tight programme deadlines. Detailed work method statements, Generic Risk Assessment and Site-Specific Risk Assessments were developed and submitted to both the design team and main contractor for comment and approval. The relevant competencies of the landscape teams were also provided to Amey.
Site specific inductions were attended by all of AEMG’s employees provided by Amey prior to commencing work. This ensured all staff on site were aware of any restrictions, plant and machinery movements and the arrangements for Health & Safety on site.
